What this is
QS-AI publishes plain-English commercial briefings on UK construction, written for the people who carry the risk and rarely have anyone in their corner.
Most construction news tells you what happened. It rarely tells you what to do about it. Every briefing here answers one question: does this cost you money, and what do you do this week?
Who it’s for
Every article is written for three different readers, in separate sections, because the same story means different things depending on where you sit:
- Subcontractors on the tools — the owner or foreman of a small firm, with no QS and no commercial manager. Everything in that section is doable from a phone, today, in minutes.
- Subcontractors’ QSs and commercial managers — protecting entitlement, getting paid, pricing risk in.
- Main contractors’ QSs — the other side of the table, where the exposure is supply-chain failure, step-in and second-tier risk.
Read your section. Ignore the rest.
Who writes it
QS-AI is written and edited by a working Quantity Surveyor in UK construction, currently on large-scale data centre projects. Day to day that means subcontract administration, variations, final accounts, change control and claims under NEC and JCT.
This is an independent publication. It is not connected to, endorsed by, or written on behalf of any employer, client or contractor.
How the articles are made
QS-AI uses AI to draft, and a human to decide. That is worth being specific about, because “AI-generated” usually means nobody checked.
- Every figure traces back to a named source. If a number is not in the reporting, it does not appear in the article.
- No invented case law. Court cases, judgments and contract clause numbers are never cited unless the source names them. Where a legal right matters but the detail isn’t confirmed, the article names the mechanism and tells you to get it checked — it does not guess.
- General industry context is labelled as such, so you can tell reported fact from background.
- Nothing publishes automatically. Every article is scored against grounding, sourcing and legal-safety checks, and a human reads it before it goes live.
If you find something wrong, say so and it gets corrected. That offer is genuine — accuracy is the entire product.
What this is not
QS-AI is commercial commentary and general information. It is not legal advice, financial advice, or a substitute for advice on your own contract. Nobody here has read your subcontract, your order or your policy wording. Before you act on anything with money attached, check it with your own adviser, broker or solicitor.
